Set 3 of Animal Photographs
Bob Jensen at
Trinity University
One of the favorite photographs of all time from a
few years back shows
Scottish cows feeding in the scenic pasture of the Iris Farm about a mile down
the road
I always thought this scene would make a good picture puzzle
The Three Graces (often called Cannon Balls) are pictured to the right of Cannon
Mountain
This is an Arab mare feeding across from our cottage
She sometimes broke away and loved to feed in our front yard
This is a set of current 2016 animal photographs
combined with earlier photographs.
In 2015 Erika and I stayed indoors while I snapped this picture of a bear
pulling down our hummingbird feader
When I retired in 2006 I naively hung three song bird feeders on our back deck
The next morning a bear ripped out all three feeders
We never saw or heard that bear in the night
Down the road from our cottage are some apple trees
with apples that are left for the birds and bears
Bears particularly like apples late in the season when the apples are fermented
On occasion a bear gets so tipsy that he or she cannot walk and has to sleep it
off under the shade of the old apple tree
The picture below shows an apple tree that is a particular favorite of bears
The reason we know this is that under the tree are piles of bear poop
Yesterday there was a fox in our driveway. By the
time I got my cameral it was gone.
Daylight sightings of critters like a fox, coyote, Fisher cat, bobcat, skunk,
etc. is not common
When a
Fisher cat screams it sounds like a soprano in great distress
Sightings of wild turkeys are much more common in
all seasons
We have to be careful about open doors,
because our fat chipmunks like to run inside
In June 2016 my photographer friend Wes Lavin sent
me these pictures of moose and deer
Not all these pictures, however, were taken in 2016
Horney Guys Will be Asking Her for Dates in Foliage
Season
Her too
The moose tht showed up at our yard sale
A moose gets very agitated from dogs
I took this picture about a mile from our cottage on Lovers Lane where three
horses were feeding
About three miles down the road to the west an old guy named Schmidt raises
Belgians
My cousin Don and his wife LaDonna live on Knob Hill
Farm outside Armstrong, Iowa
Until recently Don always had horses on the farm
He raised many kinds of horses, but his favorites are black Percherons
A few years back for Armstrong's Centennial Celebration Don Grew a Beard
Don raised all sorts of things from horses to donkeys to llamas to peacocks to
cats to dogs etc.
I took these cat pictures in Don's barn.
I don't care much for cats up here in the mountains, because they kill the baby
birds and kill chipmunks
Feral cats kill millions of birds in the USA every year
I close with one of my favorite shots that I took at
Don's farm
