Several Computer Science majors got a chance to show off their research during Parents' Weekend, Saturday, March 27, 2004.
In one room, Robby Zinchak (Sophomore) and Meghan Dudley (Sophomore) demonstrated a variety of robots, while Chris Smith (Senior) challenged visitors to a friendly game of Go and explained the value of a computer Go board evaluation function.
In the room next door, Daniel Nevin (Senior) discussed his thesis research on a way for robots to find their own way--quickly--in dangerous situations, while Paul Schwarz (Senior) displayed graphics from his thesis research into point-based (versus triangular) ways of redering 3D objects.
Meanwile, I was in the hallway directing traffic into the two rooms with the help of Robby the Robot (a commercially available model) and a pail of Dum Dums.
