Foliage Season in 2017
Bob Jensen at
Trinity University
Foliage colors were delayed this year by warm weather in September
We had a cool wet summer that was followed by unseasonable warmth in September
Foliage color is usually more spectacular if there are hard freezes in late September
and early October
In spite of not having those hard freezes we are at last in the midst of a
pretty good color season
Here are some views from my desk of this and earlier color seasons
These are ripening wild cranberries on our front
bushes
For some reason the birds leave them alone until late in the winter
And these are the rose hips that take form after our wild roses bloom
This is my small diesel tractor with my lawn sweeper
in tow
This cheap lawn sweeper works much better than an expensive mulching and bagging
machine that I initially bought for clearing leaves
This picture was taken from our bedroom facing the west (Vermont)
These are autumn sunflowers grown (from seeds) by
our very good friends about a mile down the road
These good folks share a huge amount of produce with the small congregation in
our community church
I see no need to labor over our own vegetable garden
Since we've not yet had a hard freeze my New Guinea impatiens by the pond garden are still in full bloom
Yeah, I put on weight since retiring (sigh)
That's the result of spending too much time on my butt either in front of a
computer or on the seat of a tractor
