Bob Jensen's Set 6-2017a of Favorite
Summertime Flowers
Bob Jensen
at Trinity University
Our flowers have thrived in the cool and wet 2017 summer
The flowers are great like in all previous summers in these White Mountains
I have a backlog of favorite summertime flowers
The pictures below are from the early 2017 summer season in June and early July
In the first week of July daughter Maria from Wisconsin
visited.
Maria took the two pictures below while standing in our yard.
Note that I had just finished clipping our bushes.
Maria pointed her camera east for this picture across my
clipped bushes
The open scar in left middle is a new ski trail added to the 90+ trails of Cannon Mountain
Maria pointed her camera west for the photograph below
I took this picture after I repaired part of the fence
surrounding our wild flower field
These two trees are old locust trees
I think 2017 was the best year so far for lupine in our
wildflower field
The tree below is an old maple tree
This is another old maple tree that split down the middle a
few years ago
I knew you wanted to see our new Samsung Smart TV
It's smarter than me with remote control buttons that mystify me
This is one of our four Swedish propane stoves that supplement
our furnace in the cold of winter
Among the early bloomers in June are the phlox and azaleas in
our rock garden
Our phlox of previous summers

Our lilacs were ever so sweet smelling this year

These are two of the eight blue-flower planters I bought
this year from Lowes
I don't even know the names of the blue flowers
This is one of our rhododendron bushes in early June before it
bloomed in our pond garden
This is the same bush in late June after it finally bloomed
alongside some newly-planted roses
My favorite annual is called Impatiens for the Sun (New Guinea
Impatiens)
I plant them extensively in all three of our flower gardens
They don't suffer from bugs or blight and bloom wonderfully all summer long

This year we have a wren family in a house above the pond
garden and another one above the front garden
Their sweet songs make my day when I'm outdoors
We get hundreds of robins passing through in April
But they don't stay because our killer-crows get the baby birds in nests made in
our bushes
This is is one of the sad ways of nature
Fortunately the crows can't perch outside the wren houses
Some years we get blue birds as well, but not this year
This is a Polka Wegilia bush I planted some years back
I now have to cut it back each year or it would grow too bid for our pond garden
This is one of the three Japanese Maple trees I planted a few
years ago
Eventually I will make the limbs bend into sculptured shapes
I got the idea for this older Japanese Maple tree at our
favorite hotel (The Spouter Inn) on the Coast of Maine

I see from my house by the side of the road
By the side of the highway of life,
The men who press with the ardor of hope,
The men who are faint with the strife,
But I turn not away from their smiles and tears,
Both parts of an infinite plan-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
