Part 2 of Wes Lavin's Pictures of Our Wild Flower
Field in June 2020 ---
Bob Jensen at
Trinity University
I love the photographs of Wes Lavin
My friend Wes Lavin is a better
photographer than me
Firstly, he has better equipment than me
Secondly he travels all over New England just to take pictures in different
seasons.
Most of my photographs are closer to home, and I'm not really into photography
Wes in into photography as a retired school teacher
Every year Wes visits the Sugar Hill Lupine Festival in June
This year the Festival was cancelled due to the pandemic
However, Wes still came to Sugar Hill to capture some of the lupines
It was in fact a very good year for lupine --- partly because of all the
moisture
Our current dry spell did not affect the spring flowers
In Part 1 I featured pictures of our wildflower field taken by
Wes

In Part 2 below I feature pictures of other parts of Sugar Hill taken by Wes
About a mile down from our cottage is New England's famous
Polly's Pancake Parlor
https://pollyspancakeparlor.com/
The restaurant started on the porch of an old farmhouse when horses and
carriages were parked outside
Soon thereafter an Building 1 was constructed beside the old farmhouse for those
old cars
Over the ensuing decades Polly's became a major attraction for visitors to New
Hampshire
In 2018 Building 2 replaced the old Building 1, although Building 2 looks a lot
like the smaller old Building 1
Across the road the old farm's barn still stands looking just about like it did
so many years ago
This is a view of Cannon Mountain and the Three Graces (Canon Balls) from the front yard of Polly's
This is a similar view that also shows Mt. Lincoln to the left
and then the higher Mt. Lafayette
Franconia Notch separates Lafayette and Lincoln from Cannon Mountain
Especially note the old mare in the pasture
Another picture of her taken by Wes is shown below
Beside the barn this very old swaybacked mare still feeds in a
very large pasture
If I'm not mistaken this mare belongs to Polly's great, great granddaughter
It might even be a great, great, great granddaughter
At first glance I thought this picture made it look like there
were two horses
Trust me this is only one old horse that's been put to pasture
Down the road about two miles from Polly's is a field beside the
home of our good friends Amy, Billy, and Amy's mother Alice
When she was into dressage Amy ran a stable alongside this field
Now she has a "scarecrow" and raises sunflowers and great vegetables
About 1/4 mile down the road from Polly's is the historic St.
Matthews Chapel
The claim is that this is the most photographed church in New Hampshire
The usual summer services were cancelled this year due to the pandemic
I will feature the photographs and the
history of this chapel in forthcoming editions of Tidbits
This picture was copied from a very old post card
I imagine the driver stopped to have a picture taken and then proceeded to
Polly's Pancake Parlor
